Wills, Trusts & Estates
FBMJ offers estate planning and administration services which include both transactional and litigation expertise. We advise clients regarding estate and gift taxation issues which can include basic techniques such as simple wills and trusts, to more complicated cross board transactions.
The primary focus of our practice in this area is the minimization of tax liability, asset protection, ease of estate administration and achieving clients’ objectives in the distribution of assets after death. In addition to planning services, we offer broad experience in the court-supervised administration of estates and in litigation of probate estate issues.
Our clients are primarily professionals and business owners with more sophisticated planning requirements. We have represented both US and non-US citizens with estate planning issues with state, federal and international implications. Specifically we have advised clients with estate and/or probate needs in Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Canada.
Our work also includes preparing and/or advising clients concerning the following instruments:
- family limited partnerships,
- limited liability companies,
- counseling on retirement distribution taxes,
- pre-marital agreements,
- trusts,
- wills,
- powers of attorney; and
- Closely held corporation buy-sell agreements.
