FBMJ’s Richard Baron Reports Good News to the City of Marquette
Attorney Richard Baron reported good news to the Marquette City Commissioners at their regular meeting on March 31, 2014 regarding contamination levels at the former Cliffs Dow site. The 46-acre site, located on the shores of Lake Superior, was used for industrial purposes and contained environmental contamination prior to the City’s purchase of the property in 1997. Baron and other environmental professionals have been working with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and the City since 2009 to monitor the conditions of the property. Baron reported that recent data shows the chemical contamination is trending down – good news for City officials who believe this site offers great opportunities for redevelopment.
