Before joining Foley, Baron, Metzger & Juip, James worked at a metro-Detroit law firm and as in-house counsel for a national auto insurer. He represented various insurance companies against auto insurance claims and as assigned carriers through the Michigan Automobile Insurance Placement Facility (MAIPF). In addition, James has experience in complex trust and estate litigation, guardianship, and conservatorship matters.
James attended the University of Detroit Mercy Law School and was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Linda S. Hallmark at the Oakland County Probate Court. In addition, he worked as an Arson Fraud Unit Intern at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office in Detroit. Prior to law school, he was employed at a level II trauma hospital as an emergency room paramedic and worked in private EMS for seven years.
James is a first-generation attorney, the oldest of four, and enjoys being outdoors. Whether it’s on the golf course, the beach, or in the woods, he’s usually outside as much as possible. He loves to spend time in the woods turkey hunting or just simply at the park with his kids. James credits his late grandfather for inspiring him to pursue law school as he always valued self-improvement and learning, ideals he learned from the Navy and as an accomplished master electrician.
James and his wife, Nicole, fell in love while training for the Detroit Half Marathon years ago. While James is usually not one to be late, he had registered late for the race and it wasn’t until the start of the race that he realized he had accidentally registered as a walker. As a result, he came in second place for his age-group and proudly displays his plaque in his house. James and Nicole used to be avid runners, participating in events such as Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, and the Turkey Trot. Now their days are spent running around playgrounds.
