FBMJ’s Joseph McGill on AI, Networking, and Leadership in the Bar and Your Practice

FBMJ attorney and State Bar of Michigan President, Joseph McGill, recently published an article in the Michigan Bar Journal titled, “AI, Networking, and Leadership in the Bar and Your Practice.” The article explores how AI is revolutionizing networking in the legal profession, enhancing traditional methods rather than replacing them. AI tools help lawyers streamline their networking efforts, identify key connections, and build a reputation for leadership. By offering data-driven insights, AI can guide professionals in selecting meaningful opportunities, crafting thought-leadership strategies, and progressing toward leadership roles, whether in a firm or bar association. Ethical use of AI is emphasized, ensuring it enhances the human aspects of networking, such as authenticity and trust, while aligning with privacy and integrity standards.
McGill was sworn in as the 90th President of the State Bar of Michigan in September 2024 serving a one-year term. As a Member with the firm, he has extensive litigation and transactional experience. His practice includes complex litigation matters including business torts, construction litigation, product liability, commercial disputes and probate and estate planning.
