Joe McGill is the 90th President of the State Bar of Michigan, 1st Honorary Consul of Ireland to the State of Michigan and Member at Foley, Baron, Metzger & Juip, PLLC. He has extensive litigation and transaction experience in product liability law, Consumer Product Protection/product recalls, commercial law, business and estate planning, and complex corporate, probate litigation, trust litigation, insurance coverage analysis and litigation and forms of real estate matters. His practice also includes complex litigated matters such as business torts, construction litigation, coverage disputes, tax appeals, family law, defense of mold and related injury claims, and municipal sewage defect claims. He has completed advanced certifications in the areas of Family Law, Probate and Estate Planning sponsored by the Michigan Institute for Continuing Education. He has recently been designated as Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator by the National Association of Fire Investigators.

McGill has recently been appointed Ireland’s 1st Honorary Consul to the state of Michigan. He is also licensed to practice law in the states of Michigan and Ohio. He has been admitted to practice in multiple states nationwide and is admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court, US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, US Court of Veterans Appeals, US Tax Court and several US District Courts.

McGill is an elected member of the Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan and presently serves as its 90th President. In his present role as President, he is responsible for and assists executive leadership with overseeing and leading all aspects of the operation of the bar. He has also served as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President-Elect. His bar experience includes statewide leadership of areas such as: Finance/Audit, Professional Standards, Character & Fitness, Client Protection Fund, Judicial Ethics, Judicial Qualifications, Lawyers & Judges Assistance, Professional Ethics, the Unauthorized Practice of Law and Strategic Planning.

He has served as the Chair of the Representative Assembly for the State Bar of Michigan, is an Emeritus Director and past President of the Catholic Lawyers Society of Metro Detroit, past President of the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers and past-President and founder of the Irish Network Detroit.
