Before joining FBMJ, Eric served as in-house counsel for a marijuana startup responsible for project management, licensing, and business development. He will continue to support FBMJ’s cannabis clients, assisting with regulatory and licensing issues, privacy and HIPAA compliance, and real estate, environmental, land use and zoning issues.
As a pharmacist Eric worked for two national healthcare compliance audit companies and traveled across the country investigating both Medicare and Medicaid compliance and fraud, waste, and abuse. Eric subsequently served as the lead auditor for Michigan Medicaid’s contract pharmacy audit program and represented the Department during provider appeal hearings.
While in law school, Eric worked as a law clerk at a plaintiff’s qui tam firm in Birmingham, Michigan, focusing on Stark, Anti-Kickback, False Claims Act, and tax violations. He assisted on employment, real estate, and licensing matters as well. Eric also built a consulting practice helping health care professionals manage compliance audits and audit recoveries.
He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan (Marijuana Law Section, Health Care Law Section & Young Lawyers Section), the Oakland County Bar Association (Medical-Legal Committee, Young Lawyers Committee), the Michigan Board of Pharmacy, the American Society for Pharmacy Law (ASPL) and the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA).
In his spare time, Eric likes to cook gluten-free, pescatarian foods using his instant pot, air fryer, and BlueStar stove. Before law school, Eric was an avid gardener, cook, and DIYer having remodeled his house from French Provincial to Arts and Crafts. Eric looks forward to taking up golf because his son is captain of the high school golf team and his wife recently decided that she really can hit a golf ball with a golf club!
